Big Hero 6 is Big Oscar Winner
Big Hero 6 was the big winner in the Best Animated Feature category during Sunday night’s Oscars!
The Oscars are the biggest awards in movies.
If you haven’t seen it, Big Hero 6 is about a young teen and his adventures with his robotic friend Baymax.
The movie had all the right ingredients: action, adventure, heart and a good message … but what makes the award notable is the diversity of its actors and characters, including many Asian Americans.
That was reflected in the movie’s fictional and futuristic city as well — a kind of cultural mash-up of San Francisco and Tokyo, Japan, called San Fransokyo in the movie.
Daniel Henney, the actor who played the older brother, Tadashi, added in an interview : “It’s about the idea that if you utilize the brain of a brilliant child, or children in general, to its full capacity — [it’s about] what they can do and what they can overcome, if they have the right support system.”
Big Hero 6 was up against Song of the Sea, The Boxtrolls, How To Drain Your Dragon 2, and The Tale of The Princess Kaguya.
