Historic World Series
No matter which team wins baseball’s World Series, the Cleveland Indians or the Chicago Cubs … it will be historic.
Neither team has won a World Series in a really, really, reallllllyyyyy long time.
The Indians haven’t won a World Series in nearly 70 years (since 1948).
The Chicago Cubs haven’t won since 1908! Over a century ago!
The Cubs have had to deal with the “curse of the billy goat.” Whether you believe in it or not, of course, is up to you and your imagination.
But the story goes that in 1945, when the Cubs were in the World Series, a local tavern owner bought a ticket for himself … and his billy goat. During the game, fans started complaining that the billy goat smelled bad and the billy goat and its owner were asked to leave. The goat’s owner was upset and as they were leaving, he turned back and grumbled something like, “the Cubs are never going to win another World Series!” And when the Cubs lost the game he’d gotten kicked out of, he apparently added, “See who stinks now!”
The Cubs are favored to win the series since they had won more games than any other team this year.
But game 1 was last night, and the Indians won 6-0.
If Cleveland won the series, it would be a huge boost to Cleveland since they also won the NBA championship earlier this year with local hero LeBron James leading the team.
Game 2 is tonight … still in Cleveland.
The best of seven game series will be wrapped up in a week or so.
Who do you want to win?
