Quite possibly the germiest tourist attraction in the U.S. is getting a makeover.

After twenty years of people sticking their chewed up gum on the wall at the Pike Place Market in Seattle, the wall is going to be fully cleaned for the first time ever.

It’s estimated that there are over a million pieces of gum on the wall! Eewwwwww.

All the gum is being cleaned off (I would not want that job!) by industrial strength cleaners and even rakes.

The gum will be collected and weighed. How much extra weight do you think is on the wall from the gum?

The clean up began November 10 and is expected to take around three days.

“This is probably the weirdest job we’ve done,” said Kelly Foster, a member of the team hired to do the job.

When it’s all cleaned up, visitors can start sticking their chewed up gum back on the wall for round 2.
