World Record Leaf

Imagine riding your bike home from school in the Fall crunching through the leaves on the ground. And as you’re riding past, one leaf stands out from all the rest because it’s so HUGE. That’s what happened to a Canadian fourth-grader, named Joseph Donato, who stopped to pick it up and took it home. It measured 13 inches by 15 inches!

Normally, that would be the end of the story but he was hoping it might be the world’s largest maple leaf so he looked it up in The Guiness Book of World Records. It turned out there was no category for that. So, Joseph and his parents sent the measurements and pictures of it in to The Guiness Book of World Records who got back to him and told him they made a new category for him … and he had a new world record!

Update: In December, the record was broken by another Canadian, a 10-year old girl on the other side of the country.  You can see her Guinness record here and the youtube video below:
