Duke Dukes It Out!

April 7th, 2015

The Duke Blue Devils won the NCAA Basketball championship last night in a fight to the finish!

They beat the Wisconsin Badgers 68-63.

NCAA stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The championship is college basketball’s biggest prize.

This is Coach Mike Krzyzewski’s 5th NCAA championship win with Duke. (His name is pronounced Sha-shef-skee, but many people also call him Coach K). In addition to his five national titles, he also coached teams to two Olympic gold medals and has over 1,000 wins. That’s quite a resume, but he said, “This one is the best moment of my coaching career.”

The game was tied at half time and both teams had the lead numerous times. The game hinged on the freshman (first year students) coming through big in the final half of the game, including Tyus Jones (who scored 23 points and was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player), and Grayson Allen (who came through huge when the Badgers had a their biggest lead).

You can see great highlights of the game here on ABC’s Good Morning America.

The women play tonight: University of Connecticut  Huskies versus Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish. It’s the same match up as last year (that UConn won). This would be the 10th victory for UConn if they won tonight.
